What is healthy “diversity” in the Deaf community? Any oppression towards the Deaf community where organic DeafMutes and Signed Languages are born creates not diversity but diversions creating divisions among Deaf people. What are we to do about that?

Deaf Diversity or Diversions? Thank you for inspiring me! I appreciate your view.

Exactly Ella, attitudinal barriers perpetuates the oppression. This is similar to the section I did on ethnocentrism. Respect is key.
You go girl!

we r to point out when folks r playing and spinning and DIVERTING and DIVIDING
and we r to not be afraid to use the A word correctly and justice
and we r to say – thank u

Yay, it’s good to be “reading” you again. It breaks my heart to see our community ripped apart by our own greatest strength: our diverse population. We unite to end our differences as at the moment we are drowning in diversity which is not a bad thing…it’s just going to take us awhile to refocus ; ) Thanks for ur time to share w the community!

Cindy,
sure go ahead and share this video/blogsite elsewhere.
Noha, Cindy and others, yes we need to be clear about the action, talk, thinking that represent true natural diversity in the Deaf community and to stand up against diversions caused by Oralism/Audism.
BTW, have you posted a picture of your feet or hand STANDING UP for Audism Free America, posted in Deafhood Discussions Facebook in support of their rally at AGBell Symposium next week in Washington DC? I hope to do so soon!

Hi Ella,
Very good Video, but something is missing with video… Ahh.. Open Caption or Voiceover for Hearing People what you just said. I am totally agreed with you, Ella. You are right about that. Keep up good Work.. From Brian Buckley

Hi Brian,
What you mentioned is actually not called “captions” in this situation. When they re there as TRANSLATIONS from a different language like from ASL to English, they re usually called “subtitles”. Captions are much easier and faster because they re just written form of what was SPOKEN like English.
I like to encourage “teamwork” sometimes so if u know of someone who wants to understand what’s said, maybe you could make time to sit with that person and explain what was said etc. Or encourage person to contact me directly.
If I intend something to be understood by the general public (as opposed to targeting the ASal users), I do definitely make sure either subtitles or voice over is done. Thank you.
